15th of May Bridge

This bridge, connecting the Cairo districts of Mohandisseen, Zamalek and Boulaq Aboul Ela, was built in 1980-85 with additional work completed in 2000-02. The elevated road part of the bridge is a pre-stressed box section constructed by deck pushing, while the bridge itself is composed of two boxes with complete longitudinal separation. Initially, the Cairo underground metro was targeted to cross the Nile through the main bridge, and hence it was designed and constructed for this purpose. It includes a combination of steel, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete parts.

The total length of the bridge and elevated road is 2.5 km with 15 ramps and loops connected to the main superstructure along its routes.
