Feasibility Study and Detailed Design for 9 Rural Roads in Yemen

The consulting services provided by ACE were part of the preparation for Phase II of ‘The Rural Access Program’ (RAP), to test and demonstrate the new technical standards for rural access roads in three governorates in Yemen. The project began in 2005 and is still ongoing.

The standards had been prepared under Phase I and relate to road width, slope stabilisation, bituminous surfacing, embankment design, hydrology measures to prevent terrace destruction and erosion, as well as water-harvesting techniques and specific environmental measures. The project concept also includes local participation and consultations in the road planning and road maintenance processes.
